Where I live ...
Open minded, free spirited, always thinking ... lover of the arts, the people, the moment. I have lived on Long Island all my life ... born in Queens (for anyone reading this outside New York, yes - Queens is located on Long Island) and living in Suffolk County since I turned 9-years old. I moved from Sound Beach (which is located on the North Shore east of Port Jefferson and south of Bridgeport, Ct.) to Holbrook. This was my first time I've ever lived more than a couple of miles from north shore. Definately cut down on driving time and gas, but I really miss it. The most recent change (which I'll get into with more detail in the near future) is that I am living back out east ... haven't lived in this area since around 1995! I'm now in the town of Southold, living in a beautiful apartment on around 10 acres of land. Those who live on Long Island know that although it's only 12-miles maximum between the north and south shore, the geography and people near these two shores are quite different. Beaches on the north shore are full of rocks and bluffs, with the calm waters of the Long Island Sound and a view of Connecticut. South shore beaches are sandy and flat. Furthermore, the south shore is not really where the beaches of note are. Fire Island is what parallels the south of Long Island, and the beaches there are world reknown ... as is the party atmosphere at quite a few notorius beaches there. The foliage is much more dense on the north shore. The end of Long Island splits into two forks ... the south fork is famous for the Hamptons, home and playground to celebrities and people of wealth. The north fork is know for their vineyards and a quiet refuge with osprey, fox, farms, and a true country atmosphere. And, all the celebraties and millionaires who want to live on the east end without the pomp and circumstance, they live on the north fork. Many live in houses that blend in (usually of modest size and quite old), although there are areas where the mansions are amazing. I've met television producers, a major insurance company CEO, broadway actress, television writers, actors ... you name it, they are there to enjoy the quiet summers and wonderful people of the north fork. Even the accents are different between the north and south, not picked up easily by an outsider, but I can tell with about 90% accuracy when knowing which shore of the island they are from by their accent. I guess you can see that I'm somewhat partial to the north shore ... and would love to live there permanently. However, with the price of a median home at $420,000 here in Suffolk County, and $500,000 in Nassau County, buying a home is impossible, at best. It's hard enough paying exhorbitent rent and the highest electricity price in the country.

Okay, have mercy. This is my first attempt at a web page. This site is truly off the cuff. Although I'm an amateur at this, I'll try to keep it interesting. Enjoy!

My dog
I'm a lover of animals ... my absolutely favorite pet is my dog, Kali. Here she is. Time rolls on ... she just celebrated her 13th birthday (in the end of 2006). Diagnosed with hermangiosarcoma a year ago, Kali really shouldn't be as healthy as she is. I think/hope that the diagnoses was wrong as it's a cancer unique to canine, targeting the blood vessels. Usually it spreads very quickly. Don't get me wrong, she's not running at 100%, but not demonstrating pain. She moves a lot slower, isn't as alert as she used to be, and is now totally blind. When walking her, I'm her "seeing eye person". Sometimes I don't do my job as well as I should, hearing a thud as she walks into a parked car. Aside from those types of minor mishaps, she has learned verbal commands so as not to trip over stairs or fall down curbs. Update: On April 3rd, 2008, I had to put my best friend, Kali, to sleep. It was the most painful experience of my life. I lost my cousin in 2005, my mother in 2006, my aunt in 2007, and I cried more for my dog than for all three combined. It sounds horrible, but she and I were inseparable for fourteen years. Kali is buried near my apartment, and I visit her grave often. She was the best pet (and companion) I ever had.
